Padel has grown faster in the UK than almost anywhere else in Europe over the past three years. Thousands of new players have discovered the sport through pop-up courts, club membership and social media — and many are now ready for the next step: a proper padel trip abroad. This guide covers everything UK players need to know about booking a padel holiday in Spain.
Why UK Players Choose Spain for Padel
The answer is simple: Spain is where professional padel was born, and the infrastructure, climate and culture that surrounds the sport there is years ahead of what's available in the UK right now.
- Year-round sunshine: Costa Brava has over 300 days of sunshine per year. British players arriving from the M25 tend to play better in good weather — and courts are genuinely more fun when it's 25°C.
- World-class courts: Outdoor padel facilities in Lloret de Mar are dedicated, purpose-built, and competition-standard. A far cry from the converted tennis courts most UK players are used to.
- Competitive challenge: Spanish players push a higher baseline standard than most UK club matches. Playing against them exposes weaknesses and forces improvement fast.
- Social atmosphere: Spanish padel tournaments come with DJ sets on court, Saturday night club events and a social energy that has no equivalent in UK club competition.
- All in English: Padel & Go's team is English-speaking. All communications, booking information and on-court instruction are available in English.
Getting There: Flights from the UK to Costa Brava
The Costa Brava is one of the most accessible Spanish destinations from the UK.
- Girona Airport (GRO): The closest airport to Lloret de Mar — just 30 minutes away. Ryanair flies direct from London Stansted, Bristol, Edinburgh, Manchester and several other UK airports. Flight time: 2 hours.
- Barcelona El Prat (BCN): More flight options (British Airways, Vueling, Iberia, easyJet). Transfer time to Lloret: 50–60 minutes by taxi or private transfer.
- Transfer to Lloret: Taxis are available at both airports. We can arrange shared or private transfers as an add-on to any package — recommended if you are arriving with luggage and padel gear.
Most UK players can reach Lloret de Mar faster door-to-door than they can reach some UK destinations. The Stansted–Girona route is typically under 3 hours total from London.
Which Package Is Right for UK Players?
Weekend Padel Break (3 days / 2 nights) — from €319 per person
Fly Friday afternoon, play Saturday and Sunday, fly home Monday morning. This is the most popular format for UK players fitting a padel trip around a working week. Includes three hours of professional coaching, a match against other players, and two nights at a 4-star hotel with half board (breakfast and dinner).
Mediterranean Premium (5 days / 4 nights) — from €849 per person
The full experience. Six hours of coached training, match play, a welcome dinner, and head coach accompaniment across the week. Limited to 8 players. Fly out Monday, return Friday. Our most popular option for club groups and serious improvement.
Tournament Week (3–5 days with competition) — from €399 per person
Join one of Padel & Go's international padel tournaments. UK players have been joining our Costa Brava tournaments regularly — the mix of nationalities, the competitive format and the social events make it a very different experience from a UK club tournament. We welcome solo entrants and pair you with a partner of similar level if needed.
Group & Club Trips — flexible pricing
If you are a padel club, office group or birthday party looking for an organised padel trip to Spain, we specialise in custom programmes for groups of 10–30 players. One booking, everything arranged.
What Level Do You Need?
Any level is welcome. UK padel players often worry they are "not good enough" for a trip to Spain — this is almost never true. Our coaching programmes include beginners who have only played a handful of times. Tournament categories (Bronze, Silver, Gold) are calibrated to UK club levels:
- Bronze: Beginner to improver. Played less than 2 years, still building consistency.
- Silver: Regular club player. 1–2 sessions per week, solid groundstrokes, understands positioning.
- Gold: Competitive club or league player with strong technical skills.
If you are not sure where you fit, message us before booking. We would rather place you right the first time.
Practical Tips for UK Players
- Gear: Bring your own padel racket. Rental is available but playing with your own racket is always better. Padel shoes are essential — different sole from tennis shoes.
- Currency: Spain uses euros. Airport exchange is expensive — use a Wise card or similar.
- Luggage: Padel bags can go in the hold. Check individual airline policies on sports equipment.
- Timing: May, June, September and October are ideal. School summer holidays in July and August mean higher prices and hotter conditions for outdoor play.
- Solo travellers: Around 30% of our guests arrive alone. You will be paired with someone of compatible level and will have group dinners every night. It is one of the best solo-travel formats available in sport.
Frequently Asked Questions from UK Players
Do I need travel insurance? Yes — standard travel insurance that covers sports activities. Padel is a low-impact sport with a good safety record, but it's always worth having cover.
Do I need to speak Spanish? No. Padel & Go operates entirely in English for UK guests. The local staff at partner hotels all speak English.
Can I pay in GBP? Invoices are issued in EUR. UK players typically pay via bank transfer or card at the current exchange rate.
